Case D-108 · AI Sanctions Case Tracker

Cojom v. Roblen, LLC

U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, November 17, 2025

Repeat offender (verified in the record)

The case

Cojom v. Roblen, LLC, No. 3:23-cv-1669 (JCH) (D. Conn.), sanctions order (Document 54) filed November 17, 2025. Federal district court. Copy of primary document: `~/workspace/goals/ai-sanctions-case-monitoring/files/sources/D-108-cojom-v-roblen.pdf`.

What happened

Attorney David P. Stich used Descrybe.AI, an AI-based legal research tool, to draft his briefing and filed multiple fabricated authorities without checking whether they existed or supported his positions.

The rule and the sanction

Rule 11, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The court imposed a $500 Rule 11 sanction on Stich. (The order references a separate Davila v. Roblen show-cause matter, but no sanction from that separate matter is imposed in this document.)

How it could have been avoided

(a) Verify every AI-produced citation in a primary database before filing; niche AI research tools hallucinate like general ones. (b) Do not rely on a tool's marketing as accuracy: test its output against known sources first. (c) Keep a record of which tool produced which citation so errors can be traced.
